When reflecting upon this summer it is hard for me to write down and express what an amazing experience it has been. When applying for the position of a photography intern for the City Parks Foundation, I truly did not know what a fabulous experienc
e I would be getting myself into. This summer has not only been remarkable for my portfolio and professional development but it has been such an eye opening cultural experience. I not only have learned a lot about myself through this internship, but I have also learned that there is so much more to this city than I ever could have imagined.
Growing up in Westchester County I was familiar with New York City, but never really explored all the boroughs and parks that it encompasses. Having the privilege of being a photography intern for the City Parks Foundation allowed me to see this broad sense of the city. Away from all the hustle and bustle of these crazy boroughs laid calm oases, which were filled with the laughter of children or the smooth sounds of jazz. It was a pleasure to capture these sights through the eye of a lens, so not only could I enjoy these parks, but also share my visions with the people of New York to show what incredible opportunities the City Parks Foundation brings to the people of all five boroughs.

This summer I was able to photograph everything from the SummerStage concerts to Seniors Fitness yoga and tennis. Personally my favorite events were the SummerStage Kids performances. I enjoyed seeing the children of the city, many of whom were underprivileged, be able to enjoy a free magic or circus show. They were not only great subjects to photograph, but their laughter and pure enjoyment of the performances was contagious and helped to make one realize what a wonderful thing the City Parks Foundation is doing for these people. Overall every event and concert brought its own special aspect to my experience, but I really think it was the people who attended these events and the city itself that made this internship so unforgettable.
