Arrested Development has always gone against the grain. The group’s 1992 debut Three Years, Five Months and Two Days in the Life of... was message-driven and Afrocentric, the polar opposite of the nihilistic gangsta rap just starting to dominate hip-hop. And at a time when everyone was talking about “East Coast vs. West Coast,” Arrested Development came from the South—and celebrated that fact in hits like “Tennessee” and “People Everyday.” Fifteen years later, the South is the center of hip-hop, and Arrested Development are back with a new album: Since The Last Time.
