Green Girls in Madison Square Park after TW Cable visit

7/23/12

Time Warner Cable

By Paula-Gaye

Today was an ecstatic, fun, and great learning day for the Green Girls Summer Institute. We attended the Time Warner Cable building in Manhattan. I learned about the business, and how it works. I also learned about a secret code that computers use called Binary code, which includes numbers 1 and 0. My experience was fun because we played Twister, got snacks and learned lots of stuff.

Green Girls make dinner in the lodge

7/24-7/25/12

Black Rock Forest

By LeeAnn Roberts

Today we went hiking in the forest and found lots of bugs. We walked to two reservoirs and found geese. Then we went back to the lodge to make dinner, which was yummy pasta. We began to play some games and do projects. Then at night we went on a night hike but ended up walking up to the parking lot. It was really dark, but the stars were so bright, it gave us light. We heard an

owl and it sounded like it said “who cooks for you?” we also went bird watching. I found a scarlet tanager. It was a male. I could tell because it was red and had black wings.

Green Girls in Clay Pit Ponds State Park

7/26/12

Clay Pit Ponds State Park, Staten Island

By Victoria Rodriguez

Thursday was really fun. We had just gotten on the bus when rain came down. Thunder doomed and lightning clashed. After a while we got to Staten Island

and we got into the forest. We adventured through the forest and I had a feeling I was being watched, so I turned around a saw a deer! Later on we saw and caught a frog. We all walked along the path back to the cabin and we drew pictures. I had fun that day even though it was tiring.

7/30/2012

Coastal Classroom

By Ariyana Ford

Today for Green Girls we went to Coastal Classroom in Brooklyn. At that beautiful beach we met Mr. Rodriguez and his assistant Ms. Patricia. They have us supplies called the water quality kit. They call it that because we was going to test the water quality. We test the water for 1 hour and 30 minutes. Then we caught fish, jellyfish, shrimp, and etc. For lunch we made jokes, funny jokes. Then we picked up garbage off the beach!
