In June of 1986, the first ever SummerStage show kicked off with a bang, as avant-garde Afrofuturist Sun Ra Arkestra touched down at the Naumburg Bandshell in Central Park. Both the park and our city’s cultural landscape have been forever changed. In the 40 years since, SummerStage has presented thousands of global artists to audiences numbering over seven million, bringing hundreds of free live performances to neighborhood parks across the city. Whether you’ve been with us since that very first show or you joined us for the first time last summer at one of our 70+ performances, be it with Jon Batiste, The Roots, Marcus Miller, or Soccer Mommy, it’s been our honor and our joy to dance, sing, and groove with you, and we can’t wait for you to see what’s in store for our birthday bash in 2026.
Get VIP access to concerts with artists you love and those you will love to discover. Every SummerStage membership now offers complimentary tickets for benefit concerts! We are committed to keeping your need for cost saving, flexibility, and value as our priority. Your membership also funds critically needed free programs in parks across the city with a focus on under-resourced communities, so you can feel good while enjoying live performances in New York City!

New York is the quintessential global city, and the place we have been proud to call home for almost four decades. SummerStage brings renowned artists and rising stars from around the world to local neighborhood parks, presenting distinctly New York genres — salsa, jazz, and hip-hop — alongside indie, reggae, Afrobeat, soul, modern dance, and much more. We turn local parks into dynamic and accessible performance spaces. There truly is no better place to experience music than amongst the trees in this iconic spot.
