Brooklyn Dance Festival

Brooklyn Dance Festival is a platform to provide service, opportunities and outreach for professional companies, emerging artists, and youth ensembles. We highlight talented artists based in Brooklyn and the NYC area and give audiences a well rounded perspective of NYC dance makers.  Dedicated to bringing the best concert dance to Brooklyn and making it accessible to everyone. Brooklyn Dance Festival is a proud member of the Bessie’s Presenter’s League.

For SummerStage 2016, The Brooklyn Dance Festival will be hosted by Brooklyn native, emcee, and dancer Shernita Anderson. Featuring award winning tap dancer and Broadway star Dormeshia Sumbry Edwards. The Bedford-Stuyvesant based Dwana Smallwood Dance School, whose youth ensemble will perform “Without Compromise” a highly intense choreography with rhythms and drums. The Bang Group will perform “Slapstuck,” a whimsical dance from two men in velcro suits. Students of Park-Slope based dance school Jeté Dance Centre will also be performing. Also performing is contemporary dance company Steps Repertory Ensemble, comprised of 10-12 dancers who hail from all over the world; under the artistic direction of Bradley Shelver. SynthesisDANCE will perform “Broken Light” a technical and energetic work that is a contemporary jazz piece in it most beautiful form; under the artistic direction of Tracie Stanfield.
