The Airborne Toxic Event featuring the Calder Quartet with Ensemble LPR

(Tito Muñoz, Conductor)

6.18.2013 | 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm | (64) Comments | Central Park | Directions to Event ›

The Airborne Toxic Event has gained a lot of attention for their lyrical arrangements, as well as their unique sound that can be described as a blend of Indie Rock music infused with a twist of classic orchestral arrangements. The five part band that formed in 2006 consists of Mikel Jollett, Steven Chen, Noah Harmon, Daren Taylor, and Anna Bulbrook, all of whose individual talents come together to create an impressive energy in their music and on stage. Their self-titled debut album topped Billboard’s “Heatseeker Chart” for an astounding 8 weeks, and the Los Angeles Times assures that it is easy to get “swept up in the boundless ambition” of the band’s second album All at Once. Their third album, Such Hot Blood, is set to release in 2013.

The Calder Quartet, called “superb” by The New York Times, defies boundaries through performing a broad range of repertoire at an exceptional level, always striving to channel the true intention of the work’s creator. Already the choice of many leading composers to perform their works, the group’s distinctive approach is exemplified by a musical curiosity brought to everything they perform, whether it’s classical or contemporary repertoire. Known for discovering, commissioning, recording and mentoring of some of today’s best emerging composers, the group continues to collaborate with artists across musical genres, spanning the ranges of the classical and contemporary music world.

Ensemble LPR is an elite assemblage of the finest New York-based concert musicians, personifying Le Poisson Rouge’s commitment to aesthetic diversity and artistic excellence. Members of the ensemble are graduates from the world’s most prestigious conservatory and university programs, and have performed at the Marlboro and Aspen Festivals and as a soloist with The New York Philharmonic and The New Jersey Symphony, to name a few accolades. There is no instrumentation too large or too small for the ensemble whose unyielding standard and rigorous devotion is to the music of the world’s finest living composers as much as it is to the common practice period of classical music and collaborations with artists of non-classical backgrounds.

Question for CPF Admin – I understand that it’s a ticket-less free show. However, if I were to purchase a Summerstage Membership, would this guarantee me admission to the above Airborne Toxic Event show? Thanks

  6. Robert said on 4.23.2013

Do I need tickets for this event or can I just show up?

    • cpfadmin said on 4.24.2013

This is a free event, first come first served. We often have contests for skip the line passes, so make sure to follow us on Twitter and Like us on Facebook!

Airborne Toxic Event is so talented and The Calder Quartet is amazing too! This is fantastic.

  8. Kura said on 4.30.2013

Is it doors at 7:00, show at 8:00pm?

Unless there’s an opener because even their regular concerts aren’t 3 hours long… as much as I would dream that they would play their catalog in its entirety.

    • cpfadmin said on 4.30.2013

Doors will open at 6pm for a 7pm showtime. We have a curfew of 10pm, not all acts play until then.

  9. Holly said on 5.6.2013

Where is the entry to the event?

    • cpfadmin said on 5.7.2013

Enter the park at 69th and 5th avenue to access the GA line. Click on the “Directions to Event” link for a map.

  16. Amy said on 6.4.2013

How many tickets can one persons get? I can get there by 6pm but my friends can’t make it until 7. Do you expect the GA line to be very long?

    • cpfadmin said on 6.4.2013

Tickets are not distributed. This show is first come, first admitted until the venue is full. You can follow us on Twitter @SummerStage for live updates on the line.

  17. Johnson said on 6.5.2013

Do people with membership get better seating? If you don’t have membership but are near the front of the line, how close to the stage do you get to sit? When you get into the venue are there seats or is it standing room?

    • cpfadmin said on 6.5.2013

All levels of Membership offer express entrances to all free shows and access to reserved bleacher seating (until capacity is reached). Bleacher seating is at the front of the house, so you have a great view of the stage and full venue but are not in the front row. The venue is standing room. If you wait in the General Admission line and arrive early, doors open one hour prior to show time, you are likely to get a spot in the front of the stage.

  18. Amanda said on 6.11.2013

    • cpfadmin said on 6.11.2013

  19. Isaac said on 6.13.2013

What time do the lines usually start to form?

    • cpfadmin said on 6.14.2013

The line usually beings a few hours before doors open for a popular show like this.

  20. Chris said on 6.16.2013

What is the maximum capacity for the venue? I want to make sure I get on line at a reasonable time for guaranteed entry.
